2017 Review and 2018 Preview

Reflections on the past and upcoming seasons

Last year didn’t go exactly as planned. A running injury lasting from january till july prevented me from racing for a long time and climbing up the ITU ranking. When I returned to the action at the end of the summer, I did several good races but the running level just didn’t quite reach its full potential.

Having learned some lessons, me and my coach Thomas Steurbaut are being more carefull as it’s my priority to not get injured anymore. And so far so good! I had a solid winter. On the other hand  I still study at university and I’m not always able to fully concentrate on the sport. Exams went pretty well and I’m getting in shape for all three disciplines.

My main focus in the upcoming season will be the ITU World cups, some continental cups and hopefully some WTS races if possible. My other goal is to get selected for both the European and World Champs this year in the U23 category. I hope to do well since this is my final year in the U23 age group. Having managed some top-10’s in world cup races in previous years, I hope to perform on a consistent basis throughout the whole 2018 season.

Currently it’s certain I will compete in these events:

18/03/2018 ETU cup Las Palmas (ESP)
24/03/2018 ETU cup Quarteira (POR)
29/04/2018 National Championship Duathlon Sprint Distance Doornik (BEL)
01/05/2018 National Championship Team Triathlon Doornik (BEL)
