As of 2024, I quit my job as physiotherapist in order to pursuit my dream of becoming Pro triathlete.
I was combining physiotherapy in a private practice with training work that needs to be done to perform on elite level in international long distance triathlon racing.
To a certain degree, this was going quite allright with already some very good results. But I constantly felt certain factors were holding me back from performing at my best. Definitely 2 of the most important factors were the lack of adequate recovery after and in between training sessions on one hand. On the other hand, quite an obvious one, not enough training hours in it's own right.
Having had a good '23 season and while I still have some years ahead of me on an elite level, I'm certainly not amongst the younger athletes anymore to perform at the highest level (29years old). This got me thinking...
I talked this through with family, friends, with my colleagues at work, etc.. who convinced me to just go for it, take the opportunity while I still can and make the best of it! What will be the outcome, nobody knows but I guess we'll find out.
Ofcourse this decisions would not be possible without the help of some amazing personal sponsors of mine as well as the unconditional support from my triathlon team, SP&O, where my triathlon journey over more than 15y ago started.
So with that being said, I'm currently escaping Belgium winter and will stay and train in sunny Spain for about 3 months, right up untill my first race of the season which will be IRONMAN 70.3 Valencia on the 21st of april. After that, race season will be in full swing and I'll be traveling abroad for the months to follow.
