Sunday 13th of august I took part in the ETU cup in Wuustwezel. This was to be my first race after 10 months of not racing. With the ankle injury finally left behind me, I’m back in bussiness. I was very excited to race again, especially in my home country.
Meanwhile, I’m running again for about 6 weeks. Everything is going well, but ofcourse I’m not breaking personal records yet. I was nervous but determined to give my all!
The swim was fast en unforgiving. I experienced that I lack some racing rythm. The swim wasn’t really good, but I made up for the lost time with a good first transition. I got in the 3rd bike group. The first and second group were smaller groups with the faster swimmers. Unfortunately there was no cooperation and we couldn’t come closer to the leaders. The bike ride wasn’t hard so it promised to be a fast run.
In the beginning of the run I struggled to keep up with the faster runners but I did everything to follow. With 2 of the 3 laps of the 5km done and still in the tracks of the faster runners, we were overtaking a lot of guys of the bike groups in front of us and I was starting to feel better. The last lap I was able to put in some more effort and get away from some athletes who I was running with for the whole time. With a totally unexpected 3rd running time, I managed to finish 9th. I’m very pleased with this result as this was the first race in such a long time.
And now time for some more races to come!
