ITU World Cup Huelva (ESP)

30+ degrees at the end of september

World Cup Huelva

A lot of sunshine and a beautiful location but unfortunately not the good result I hoped for.
After a good start, which was a beach start, I had a good first 750m swim. But in the second lap of the swim, I had to fight a lot to maintain my position and at the buoys I lost some valuable time. I just missed the second bike pack. I ended up in the 3rd bike group. This still was a fairly large group, but unfortunately there were only a few who were willing to put in some effort, including myself. We lost some time on the front of the race, altogether over 2 minutes by the time we hit the run. I was really struggling with the heat and didn’t have a very good run. Perhaps the 30 degrees C in Spain were too much compared to the cold weather of the past weeks in Belgium and the Netherlands.

I finished 28th, not a result I’m happy with, but not too bad after all. I think had a bit of an offday and I definitely can do better!

Time for revenche in Mellila (ESP) in 2 weeks time: the finale of the european triathlon circuit!
