T3 Series Sprint Triathlon Weiswampach (LUX)

1 week after the Belgian Champs: Redemption time!

One week after the offday at the nationals OD triathlon I was eager to perform well. Although I knew I was in good shape, some doubts had come up after previous week. Focussing on the here and now  I knew I would be in contention for a good result. This race was a belgian T3 series event. A T3v race is like a national championship with some foreign athletes mixed in. A strong field of athletes in any case.

I had a good swim but a bad T1, which put me in the second group on the bike. Together with we tried to get things going but too many people were just sitting in and letting us work. This meant we lost some time on the leaders. By the time we entered 2nd transition, we were about 1 minute down. Together with another good runner, I immediately set off at a high pace. Together we hauled in several athletes of the leading pack. At the end of the 5k run, we caught the 3rd runner, so we were in postion 3 and 4. It would come down to a sprint for the last spot on the podium. Unfortunately, I didn't have the final push and got outsprinted and finished 4th. So near to the podium!

I'd love to have finished on the podium. On the other hand I was happy about my race. I felt strong in all disciplines and I felt espacially strong on the bike. Also glad I found the excellent running legs I had several weeks ago, with only a minimum of running. Looking forward to regain my best running fitness and smash next races!
